Literacy Internship Opportunity
Botswana 2015
"The Clinic is changing the face of literacy here. I am so proud to be the messenger of what the Clinic has to offer."

Opening Gathering for the Breakthrough Literacy Training attended by the ministry's
deputy, the director of Stepping Stones International, and the head of Botswana Insurance
Holding Limited (BIHL), the major donor, individually address and welcome the 40 teachers
from 8 schools all across Botswana.
"The training with the 40 standard 4 through 7 teachers has kept my energy high during the day, however. They have witnessed the impact their colleagues who were trained last summer are having on their students. So they were highly eager from the start to learn the models. The teachers have been willing to participate in the clinical practice and offer pointed feedback to one another. They ask wonderful questions, which demonstrates their understanding and deeper thinking about the content. They continually state they need a lot of practice to be ready for their students...this is not a common mentality here.
They are wondering why the Clinic has not come to Bots earlier to improve their practices. ;) This is a good sign that there is no resistance, and they do not view the practices as American. It has been stressed that the models are not American, rather research based instructional practices to improve literacy skills regardless of the culture or location. Highlighting this fact has made the barriers drop and reduced the skepticism."
...More updates to come.
Take Care,
Megan"
