June Nebeker
Alumna, B.S. Teaching & Learning
June taught the third grade at Douglas school starting in 1949. Later she was the volunteer teacher in a project sponsored by the Junior League and the Rotary Club that was for children with disabilities. Teaching for these students took place in a small room at Fairmont Park, and the group ranged from fifteen to twenty students of all ages. At that time there were no schools for children with disabilities, and the little school became a wonderful resource for parents and the students. Later June went back to graduate school and taught Art History at Salt Lake Community College. She followed this up by teaching Garden Design at the U. Her last teaching assignment was at Tongji University in Shanghai, China where she had the opportunity to teach spoken English.
June counts herself fortunate to have had so much contact with students of all types and believes she has learned as much from them as she may have from her. She feels very fortunate to have had her own educational background which has allowed her to try new teaching experiences which have enhanced her life.
