Undergraduate Degrees
Bachelor of Science (B.S.)
Severe Disabilities
This program will teach you to work with K-12 students and adults up to age 22 with severe disabilities. The program combines coursework with hands-on experience in special education classrooms. It focuses on:
- Creating personalized instruction plans
- Managing behavior
- Using data to guide interventions
B.S.
Mild/Moderate Disabilities
This program will teach you to work with K-12 students with high-incidence disabilities:
- Learning disabilities
- Intellectual disabilities
- Emotional disorders
- Behavioral disorders
You will learn effective teaching strategies backed by research. We encourage you to take the ESL Endorsement, an important skill set when working with these students.

Preschool & Early Intervention
This program will teach you to work with infants, toddlers, and preschool children who need extra help in their development. You will partner with families and other experts to create custom plans for each child. Family-centered specialists get the opportunity to work with families in their homes.

Visual Impairments
You'll learn to support your students in developing skills for academic success. This includes social skills, intellectual skills, and more. This program covers a range of topics:
- Unified English Braille Code
- Assistive technology
- Expanded Core Curriculum

Deaf & Hard of Hearing
This program covers a wide range of topics:
- Spoken language through audition
- Visual communication approaches
- American Sign Language
- Language and literacy development
- Social skills
- Cognitive development

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
You will apply ABA principles to affect meaningful behavior change among individuals of all ages and abilities in diverse settings including:
- Clinics
- Schools
- Communities

Adapted Physical Education (P.E.)
You will learn to create fun physical activities for kids with special needs. The program offers coursework and hands-on learning. Hands-on learning takes place through U-FIT, a family-centered program within local schools.

Interdisciplinary
Explore our research-based and interdisciplinary Special Education Ph.D. program. It’s designed to prepare leaders in the field. Ideal candidates hold a related master’s degree and field experience. Ready to shape the future of special education?
License & Endorsement
A Special Education Professional Educator License is acquired through the State of Utah. It qualifies you to teach Special Education. To start this program you choose an endorsement specialty. It will expand your skills and teaching capabilities in that area. This endorsement confirms that you learned what you need to get the state license.
