University of Utah Joins New TRAC Initiative to Prepare Future Utah Teachers
The University of Utah’s College of Education has joined the Talent Ready Apprenticeship
Connection (TRAC) Teacher Youth Apprenticeship program, a multi-partner initiative designed to create clear, supported pathways for students to pursue careers in
education.
The TRAC program aligns Salt Lake City School District (SLCSD), Salt Lake Community College (SLCC),
and The University of Utah to connect high school students with hands-on classroom
experience, while they work toward a bachelor’s degree and K-12 teaching license.
Through this program, students will split time between academic coursework and paid
apprenticeship rolesin SLCSD schools, building real-world skills while progressing toward licensure.
The College of Education will provide degree and licensure coursework for students
pursuing elementary education and special education. The college will also offer advising, scholarship information,
and structured engagement opportunities as students transition from SLCC or enter
directly from high school.
By aligning K-12, community college, and university pathways, the TRAC program is
designed to remove barriers and increase access to postsecondary education, support
degree completion, and address the growing need for qualified educators across the
state.
