Dr. Cathy Nelson
Dr. Cathy Nelson in the Department of Special Education, along with several colleagues
at multiple institutions around the country, will be receiving funding for the National
Leadership Consortium in Sensory Disabilities. This program, based at Salus University,
is funded by the Office of Special Education Programs in the U.S. Department of Education.
The Consortium provides funding for training 30 doctoral students who will provide
leadership in the area of services for students with sensory disabilities (deaf/hard
of hearing, blind/visual impairments, and deafblind). The University of Utah’s role
will be in the area of deafblind disabilities. Potential doctoral scholars will be
selected from a national pool to receive funding and participate in numerous instructional
and enrichment activities that will augment their studies in the Department of Special
Education at the University of Utah.
