Prevention Technology Transfer Center

The Mountain Plains Prevention Technology Transfer Center is part of 10 regional centers across the U.S. committed to improving implementation and delivery of substance abuse interventions. The Mountain Plains PTTC provides evidence-based information, training and technical assistance to those in the substance abuse prevention and health care fields in the six states.

Technology-rich, adaptive learning environments

The ASSIST lab focuses on developing technology-rich learning environments that analyze your personal learning and adapt to the way in which specific individuals learn. As you use an online learning system — clicking, typing, scrolling, selecting menus, etc. — the system logs these fine-grained behaviors (and their outcomes) to model how you learn.

Dr. Lauren Barth-Cohen has a passion for how students learn science. She aims to translate her research into ways that can be useful to K-12 teachers. To carry out this research, she designs and implements science instruction where students engage in knowledge-building practices.

Viewing childhood disabilities as diverse abilities

Children

Shamby Polychronis is passionate about social justice and, in particular, inclusiveness for children with disabilities. Dr. Polychronis is a clinical instructor in the Special Education Department of the College of Education. Passion is hardly an unusual quality in university professors, but Polychronis has a personal connection: her son was diagnosed with a developmental delay at age two.
